I have been offered a 2nd hand panna to use in my workshop. But the 'new' panna has the exhaust at the top, which then turns through 90 degrees and into the wall/chimney. As it is in the cellar, the new exhaust will be extremely close to the roof. There is usually a minimum distance between this and burnable material (maybe 50 cm?).

So if I can't achieve this distance, what can I use between the exhaust and the roof of the cellar?

There are also different products on the market which are only a few cm thick and are easily placed on a wooden wall or roof. Can then be painted etc. Look for example for Grenaisol! One interesting video:

A 3 cm Grenaisol can decrease 500 degrees on the one side to 90 on the other.

Maybe easier and better looking also?

Another possibility is to use insulated chimney pipes. Then you can place the pipe pretty close to combustible material (50 mm for example!)

Thanks for that. I spoke to the guy that came to inspect the chimney today. He didn't seem very happy about using some form of insulation, though. He said that because they don't know the specification of the material, or the temperature of the chimney, they prefer to see the gap above the boiler. It's an easy decision then for them to say yes or no.

Well, they usually have a lot of own ideas but the reality is that the only rule you have to consider is that combustible material can not be more than 85 degrees during normal usage. You can always ask for a test of temperature.

And if you use CE-marked material with specifications, the chimney sweeper or anyone can not stop the use of it.

Why not use an insulated steel chimney? Then you can keep maybe 50 mm from the roof, no worries! On the outside, the pipe will seldom get over 100 degrees. And if it does and you keep say 50 mm to the roof, you can do your own calucations about how warm the max temperature can be on combustible! You will have plenty plenty of margins up to 85 degrees anyway!
